ABOUT THE NEW CERNE ABBAS MUSIC FESTIVAL

The Cerne Abbas music Festival seeks to present Chamber music of the highest standard in a relaxed and informal atmosphere.  Since 1991 it has been presenting concerts with the Gaudier Ensemble.  This international group of musicians brought us an unrivalled breadth of Chamber music from the 18^th century to the present day with intimate solo performances being staged alongside larger mixed ensemble works.  The musicians have come to Cerne Abbas each year as a break from their busy touring schedules and immersed themselves in the peaceful and inspiring atmosphere of this beautiful village.

The Festival is now entering a new era but will continue its ethos of presenting varied programmes of wonderful music from the established repertoire as well as less known works performed by musicians with a particular commitment to Chamber music.  We hope to extend the scope of the Festival by presenting concerts in other local venues, reach a wider audience and schedule concerts more frequently throughout the year.

The musicians who have appeared for many years will continue to visit alongside other international colleagues, outstanding young professionals at the outset of their careers and students who comprise the next generation of professional musicians.  The wide experience of the Gaudier Ensemble will inform much of the programming to delight and educate us in equal measure. Richard Hosford will continue as the Festival Artistic Director.
